Barry Benveniste
Treasurer
My introduction to Wealdstone FC is somewhat different from most. It was my mum who told me about the club (she knew I was a football fan) after a chat with one of her friends. She was not a football fan and only ever went to one match which was the
FA Trophy final in 1985.
My first game was on 6 September 1966 and I remember it from the two goals scored direct from free kicks by Hugh Lindsay. However it was in the 1968/69 season that I really got involved and watched virtually all home games and few away a total of about 25 games. I have been a regular ever since seeing most home games and travelling to as many away games as possible. I think by now I must have watched Wealdstone over 1,000 times.
My commitment is such that I became a life vice president in October 2001. I became treasurer of the main football club at the start of the 2007/08 season, a position I still hold. I joined the Supporters’ Club committee in February 2001 principally to take on the role of the treasurer. In that respect I am fairly new but have been a regular attendee at agm’s for the last 40 years or so. I enjoy my dual treasurership role, probably the first in the history of the club, and find situations when I am talking to myself in these roles!
I am currently married to Naomi, have one son Daniel and one granddaughter Hannah.
